Wooing The Ex-Wife novel Chapter 29

It had been two years since Liza and Steve had started dating. During the past year lot of things had changed. Liza had decided that she could love someone other than Jonathan and had finally given Steve a chance. Alice and Alex were going strong, though it took a lot of restraint on Alex's part to stop himself from punching Jonathan every time he saw him. Now, Alex's anger had died down to snarky remarks. Jonathan had finally merged the publishing company in the 'West industries'. It had taken some time but Jonathan and Liza had stopped avoiding each other and now maintained a civil office relationship, even a distant friendship.

Liza smiled at her reflection, as she twirled around making her mauve dress flutter around her calves. It looked perfect for her dinner date with Steve. She paired it with some dangling silver earrings and heels, keeping her make up minimum. Steve had gone to India for a book signing event and he was reaching just in time for their anniversary. Checking the time, in the clock behind her Liza did a quick touch up and went to the living room waiting for Steve. She waited for nearly a hour and called Steve nearly a million times, before giving up and going to her room to change. She had just began slipping off the dress when the door bell rang. She hurriedly slipped on the dress again and went to see who it was. She opened the door only to find Steve with a box of chocolates in one hand and his briefcase in other. His blond hair were ruffled and he was still wearing a business suit. Before Liza could speak anything, he pushed the box of chocolate in Liza's hands and kissed her hard on her lips, dropping down the briefcase. Liza clutched the box in her hands as she responded to his kiss with equal force. His hand went up to her hair and she slapped it, before pulling away. They panted as they rested their foreheads against each others.

"I missed you" Steve said from in between the short breaths. "I missed you too" Liza replied. Soon their breathing returned back to regular. "What took yo so long?" Liza asked. "My flight was delayed and the battery of my cell phone died" he replied. "I almost changed out of them. thinking that you were bailing on me." Liza said, as they settled in he living room. "I am glad you didn't because you look absolutely beautiful, even with your messed up lipstick and we have a date at 'The Orchids'." Steve said, eyeing Liza's now slightly swollen lips. Liza blushed under his gaze and clicked open her selfie camera to check her lipstick. It was mostly gone now and only its remnants remained at spreading out of the corner of her lips. "You completely destroyed my makeup" Liza half complained. Steve laughed and said "But it was worth it, wasn't it ?" . Liza rolled her eyes and went to her room to reapply the lipstick, while Steve decided to freshen up and get ready for the dinner. He donned a black blazer over a Forest Green T-shirt and black pants. He smoothed his hair and checked the pocket of his blazer, finding the little blue box tucked away safely. He hoped that Liza would like it, even though she never cared much about jewelry. "Are you ready?" Liza asked popping in her head. "Yeah, lets leave." he replied.

Their date had gone well and currently Liza was licking her vanilla ice cream. Steve hesitantly pulled out the blue box from his pocket and tapped on Liza's shoulder, dragging her attention away from her delicious ice cream. Liza's eyes widened at the sight of the blue box. Steve chuckled at her semi frightened expression and said "It's not what you think it is." Relief flushed through Liza's veins and her expression changed to a curious one. "What is it?" she asked, still unsure. "I know that it is too early to propose, so think of this as a promise ring. I promise you that whenever you need me, I will be there, even if you need me as a friend." Steve replied as he opened the box revealing a sapphire ring and slipped it on to Liza's finger.
